Homemade Calendula Oil

Calendula has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, astringent, antifungal, antiviral, and immunostimulant properties making it useful for disinfecting and treating minor wounds, conjunctivitis, cuts, scrapes, chapped or chafed skin, bruises, burns, athlete’s foot, acne, yeast infections, bee stings, diaper rashes, and other minor irritations and infections of the skin.

Reading this, I’m left to wonder: What can’t calendula do? So let's get started and make some lovely calendula infused oil. This oil can be used after you shower , in your bath or maybe as an additional oils to your creams

What you will need:
dried calendula petals
carrier oil (olive oil, almond oil, or sunflower oil are all great choices)
a clean, glass jar with a lid

How to infuse the oil:

There are two different methods to infuse your oil with the healing properties of calendula. We'll look at the two different methods below and talk about the pros and cons to each method.
  • 1. Cold Infusion Method

This is usually the preferred method, because it protects the delicate calendula from being damaged by heat.

Steps for the cold infusion method are as follows:
Put your desired amount of dried calendula petals in your clean, dry glass jar.
Fill the jar with your carrier oil of choice to cover the petals by one inch.
Put in a sunny place to infuse for 4 weeks.
Drain the petals from the oil and store your oil in a container with a lid for up to one year.

That's it! Very simple and straightforward. The only downside to this method is that it takes 4 weeks to get your finished oil. If you are in a hurry then you might need to use this next method.
  • 2. Hot Infusion Method

This method is much quicker then the cold infusion method, but it won't have quite the same strength because of the heat that it is subjected to. Don't worry though! It will still have healing properties, just not to the same extent as the cold infused oil.

Steps for the hot infusion method are as follows:
Put your desired amount of dried calendula petals in your clean, dry glass jar.
Fill the jar with your carrier oil of choice to cover the petals by one inch.
Dump the entire contents of your jar (the petals and the oil) in a small saucepan or slow cooker. Heat on low for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
Let cool. Drain the petals from the oil and store your oil in a container with a lid for up to one year.

A Father's Day without Toxic chemicals

Groovy Green Livin Father's Day

Father’s Day is right around the corner. Great dads deserve great presents, but trust us: You love your dad too much to buy cologne made
with cancer-causing chemicals.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has investigated common chemicals found in men’s products and we provide tips how to detoxify any guy’s bathroom cabinet. We can also point you to companies that make men’s products without harmful chemicals. Men’s cologne makes an appearance on many Father’s Day gift lists. But giving your dad a fragrance is like spraying him with nasty chemicals that could hurt his health. And what kind of present is that?
It’s not just colognes that are made from problematic chemicals. Men’s hair color, shampoos, and anything with a fragrance may contain chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, learning disabilities and other chronic health problems. More than 1 in 5 personal care products contain chemicals linked to cancer.

Testing by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found a range of hidden harmful chemicals in men's cologn and body sprays. You won’t find them on the label because fragrance chemicals, which disrupt hormones, are given special protected status as trade secrets.

For a healthy Father’s Day, get your dad a present that won’t make him sick. Kids can make a great do-it-yourself chocolate facial that dad can eat after exfoliating! Or maybe they’d rather try a soothing homemade balm to protect dad’s hands after gardening or working around the house?
(Get your raw materials from HERE )

Some of the chemicals of concern in most commercial men’s products include:

Triclosan: This toxic pesticide can be found in antiperspirant, shaving cream and aftershave.
Coal tar: Take a look at your dandruff shampoo and you might find this known human carcinogen, which has been banned or found unsafe for use in Canada and the European Union.
Formaldehyde: found in shampoos and body washes, this probable carcinogen and known allergen can trigger skin rashes and allergic reactions.

Father’s Day is an excellent time to tell your dad (or husband, brother, or son) that he’s beautiful without covering his skin with toxic chemicals!

Sexy Toxic Lips

Extracted from dailymail.com

Teenagers' favorite lipsticks are 'laced with toxic metals': Popular colors and glosses 'contain substances linked to cancer'

Women are exposing themselves to potentially dangerous levels of chromium

The chemical can cause lung cancer and has been linked to stomach cancer
By FIONA MACRAE

Many popular lipsticks and glosses are laced with toxic metals, a study found.

Use of some of the cosmetics could lead to girls and women unwittingly exposing themselves to potentially dangerous levels of chromium – a chemical that can cause lung cancer and has been linked to stomach cancer.

The researchers also warned those who frequently applied some of colours and glosses could take in ‘troubling’ amounts of aluminium and manganese

Some studies have linked aluminium to Alzheimer’s disease, while there are concerns that manganese can cause mood swings and problems with memory and co-ordination.

The 32 products tested were bought in the US and chosen because they were popular with teenage girls.

The brands have not been disclosed but they are described as being ‘very common’ and widely available in chemists and department stories.

The cheapest cost £3.50 and the most expensive £15.50.

The trade body for the cosmetics industry in the UK said that EU laws prohibit the inclusion of many of these chemicals.

However, red and green dyes based on chromium are permitted.

The study’s authors said that their results shouldn’t be a great cause for alarm amongst women and girls. However, they should act as a wake-up call for health regulators.
researchers warned that once applied, the colours and glosses and their contents, are ingested ¿bit by bit¿ by the wearerThe researchers, from the University of California, Berkeley, began by asking a group of girls and young women which lipsticks and glosses they had in their bags and which were in their bathrooms at home.
The researchers then bought the products and analysed their chemical content.
They then factored in whether the levels found were enough to cause a concern to health.
They found that average daily use – two to three applications a day – led to a potentially dangerous intake of chromium in ten of the 32 lipsticks and glosses.

High use – around eight applications a day – could lead women and girls being exposed to too much aluminium and manganese, the journal Environmental Health Perspectives reports.

The researchers warned that once applied, the colours and glosses and their contents, are ingested ‘bit by bit’ by the wearer.

Researcher Katharine Hammond said: ‘Just finding these metals isn’t the issue; it’s the levels that matter.

‘Some of these toxic metals are occurring at levels that could possibly have an effect on long-term health.’

Levels of lead did not prove to be a cause for concern – expect perhaps for children who might use their mother’s make-up when playing dressing up games.

In an earlier study, also carried out in the U.S., traces of lead were found in hundreds of different lipsticks, including some made by L’Oreal, Maybelline and Revlon.

Professor Hammond said that although the number of products tested was small, the findings are important.

She said: ‘The lipsticks and lip glosses in our study are common brands available in stores everywhere.

‘Based on our finding, a larger, more thorough survey of lip products and cosmetics in general is warranted.’

Elizabeth Salter Green, director of UK-based campaign group CHEM Trust said there are particular concerns about the health effect of such chemicals on young women who may become pregnant.

She added: ‘The worrying levels of metal in US lipstick should be a wake-up call to all areas of the world, including the EU, and they ought to be removed.

‘There needs to be improved testing for not only the individual chemicals themselves, but also what effects the “whole cocktail” of our exposure to harmful metals and chemicals may be.’

Chris Flower, of the trade body, the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Perfumery Association, said that a big brands will sometimes, but not always, use the same the product recipe around the world.
He said that the US researchers were taking a ‘very conservative approach’ and their concerns are already covered by EU legislation.

Argan oil - 'Liquid Gold'

THE ARGAN OIL SECRET TO BEAUTY

Argan oil has a myriad of benefits for beauty.
Argan oil is an antioxidant– known as nature’s answer to botox, it is a Vitamin C and E packed oil perfect for combating free-radicals and works as an anti-aging.
Softens dry skin – Argan oils high concentration of vitamin E and essential fatty acids alleviates skin complications like dry skin or dry patches.
Reduces the appearance of wrinkles–Applying under the eye results in the reduced appearance of crinkly lines under the eye.
Reduces skin imperfections – with regular use Argan oil for skin has been shown to heal acne blemishes and prevent new breakouts.
If you are looking to acquire Argan oil, do your research and order from a trusted source. Since the recommendation of Oprah and others have caused such an interest in Argan Oil there have been many jumping on the Argan Oil bandwagon and pushing questionable products with only a small percentage of 100% pure Moroccan Argan Oil in their product.
Pure organic Argan oil isn’t cheap, so if you see cheap prices… there is a strong chance the product isn’t 100% pure organic – but mixed with a bunch of chemical additives.
In either event, ordering from a company that has experience and guaranteed products is a sure fire method of obtaining your little piece of ‘Liquid Gold’.

ARGAN OIL HEALTH BENEFITS
As well as its cosmetic benefits, Argan Oil plays a major role as part of a healthy diet. Argan oil has two times more Vitamin E in than Olive oil; therefore Argan oil can be included in dishes in the same way olive oil is used. Chefs worldwide have shifted to Argan oil from other oils due to an increase in demand from healthy diet menus.
Argan oil is commonly used as a massage oil to help relieve the symptoms of arthritis. It has also been reported that Argan oil has shown a positive impact on chicken pox and acne because of its powerful anti-inflammatory abilities. Because of those abilities, it is also a product that can minimize the pain and scarring of burns or other abrasions.

AND IF YOU WHERE WONDERING WHERE IT COMES FROM....
Argan oil is extremely rare and is found in a small region of Morocco. While Argan oil is a new phenomenon to those in the United States and Europe, native Moroccans have used Argan oil for hundreds of years. Moroccans call Argan oil “Liquid Gold” and believe that it can help with many skin conditions. These purported restorative and anti-aging benefits have led to a high demand for this difficult-to-produce oil.

Still Skeptic? ...
Now that all of the issues in regards to Argan oil claims as the secret to beauty and for general health have been explored its time to decide if the Argan oil benefits outweigh any skepticism you may have about it. Various studies have been conducted since Argan oils worldwide debut and it’s clear that Argan oil is one of nature’s natural health wonders.

How to ease the pain of a stinging Jelly Fish -The natural way

Jellyfish stings come from the long tentacles that trail the bell-shaped jellyfish. These tentacles have alkali-based venom.

Symptoms of a jellyfish sting can vary depending upon the type of jellyfish.

Treating the sting on the spot can be done naturally...

· Removing the tentacles with a stick or other object to avoid being stung also, the assistant should be careful not to scrape them off causing more stings.

· Without scrubbing, which would release more venom, rinse the stings with seawater or vinegar. In the absence of vinegar, human urine (preferably male urine which is more sterile) can do the same thing. If a woman's urine is used, bacteria from a urinary tract infection could infect the stings.

· Do not use freshwater, sun lotion or alcohol, which can stimulate the pain. The most important task is to keep the affected area immobile and to remove the tentacles to prevent more venom going into the victim.

· If you have taken all these steps but more tentacles remain, you can coat the area with flour, baking powder, shaving cream, or mud and use the dull edge of a knife (or even a plastic bank card) to shave off the rest. The coating should protect against more venom draining into the victim's body.

· Use a few drops of undiluted PURE lavender essential oil*on the sting. This will help neutralize the stinging effect.

* Be cautious when using essential oils undiluted. Lavender and tea tree oil can be used undiluted as FIRST AID ONLY. Other essential oil cannot be used undiluted. Always seek professional advice when doing so.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THEN CURE...
As a preventive measure for avoiding Jellyfish Stings, it is better to avoid swimming in oceans 8 to 10 days after a full moon as jellyfish reproductive gatherings take place during this time thereby increasing the likelihood of getting Jellyfish Stings.

WATCH OUT FOR REACTIONS!
The most important thing to do after a jellyfish sting is watch for severe allergic reactions, also known as anaphylaxis. If you see red lines coming from the wound and heading for the heart, you should head for the nearest emergency room. Other symptoms that need seeking medical advice include:

• Nausea

• Difficulty in breathing

• Difficulty swallowing

• Fever

• Heart palpitations

DIET FOR JELLY FISH STINGS
Apart from adopting the above mentioned Jellyfish Stings home remedies, a general healthy diet consisting of judicious amounts of nutritious fruits, vegetables and whole grains rich in essential vitamins and minerals is highly beneficial in facilitating the process of healing Jellyfish Stings.

Coffee ; Pure Goodness or Plain Evil?

Many of us feel like we cannot function without our first cup of coffee in the morning. Why do we feel that way? Does the caffeine in the coffee have a physiological effect on our body? If so, is it harmful or is it beneficial? As with so many things, there are benefits and there are risks.

Caffeine, the main ingredient found in coffee is a stimulant. It causes your heart rate to increase, your pupils to dilate, and your muscles to tighten up. Caffeine injects adrenalin into your system to give you a boost and make you feel good.

BENEFITS OF CAFFEINE

Believe it or not, certain amounts of caffeine can have beneficial effects. Historically, small amounts of caffeine have been used to help control weight, alleviate pain, open up airways for improved breathing, and overcome chronic fatigue.

Small amounts of caffeine are found to provide the following benefits:

*Can benefit people who are at high-risk for liver disease.

*Increases muscle strength.

*Increases metabolism by breaking down fat, freeing fatty acids and forcing them to be burned. (Caffeine is the most active ingredient in many diet pills.)

*Increases pain relief medication effects.

*Increases mental faculty.

*Reduces asthma symptoms.

RISKS OF CAFFEINE

Two cups of coffee a day is considered an acceptable amount. Caffeine does not become a problem until you start consuming an excessive amount of it. As your body gets used to caffeine, it becomes addicted to it. The symptoms for drinking too much caffeine and the symptoms for caffeine withdrawal are very similar.

EXCESS CAFFEINE - Too much caffeine can cause an array of problems including:

*Restlessness

*Irritability

*Anxiety

*Heartburn

*Headaches (sometimes severe)

*High blood pressure

*Sleeplessness

*Rapid heartbeat

*Nausea

CAFFEINE WITHDRAWAL - Symptoms can begin as soon as 12 hours after your last cup, depending on the amount of caffeine your body is used to. Symptoms can last for up to a week and include:

*Restlessness

*Irritability

*Anxiety

*Headaches (sometimes severe)

*Muscle stiffness

*Chills and/or hot spells

If you are attempting to reduce your caffeine intake, do so gradually. Cutting back slowly will help you avoid some of the withdrawal symptoms. If you simply must have a cup of something in the morning, try decaf or an herbal tea.

CAFFEINE ALTERNATIVES
Most people who drink coffee regularly, do so to combat fatigue. Regular coffee consumption increases tolerance to caffeine, resulting in a greater dependence on it. There are other options to deal with fatigue that do not rely on caffeine;

*EAT BREAKFAST. Having a healthy breakfast (Include protein, not donuts!) every morning revs up your metabolism, improves your concentration, and makes it much easier to get through the morning.

*EAT A SNACK. If you find yourself getting sluggish by the middle of the morning, eat a healthy snack like fruit, whole grain crackers or yogurt. Complex carbohydrates supply your body with the energy it needs to be effective.

*MOVE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk during your break or at lunch, and get up and stretch as often as possible during your day. Regular physical movement makes your heart pump harder and helps your body fight fatigue.

*AVOID TOO MUCH FAT. If you find yourself falling asleep at your desk by 3:00 every afternoon, a high-fat lunch may be to blame. After you eat, your body is busy with the digestion process and distributing nutrients to the proper places. If you consume a lot of fat, it takes your body longer to work through the digestion process, causing you to feel more tired

Every story has a MYTH...
Caffeinated beverages are not necessarily dehydrating. Caffeine is a diuretic, meaning that it makes you pee more…so make sure you drink enough liquids (water, that is) to keep you hydrated. Keep in mind, that caffeine pills don’t contain any fluids and, therefore, can be VERY dehydrating.

COFFEE IN BEAUTY PRODUCTS

With summer round the corner, most people try everything that they can lay their hands on to minimize imperfections such as cellulite and varicose vein. Probably you might have even heard of homemade coffee scrubs that promise you results but with half the cost; well, I have to burst your bubble here and tell you that’s it’s not necessarily true.

Let’s make things a bit more clear shall we!?…When people think of caffeine, most  think immediately coffee…and yes, I cannot disagree with that. The difference though is that most commercial products used for our dreaded orange peel looking thighs, our spidery veins and dull under eye bags,  use caffeine extracts which are more concentrated then just your daily Nescafe` (which by the way, when I talk about the benefits of coffee, I always refer to the real stuff and not the soluble junk like such which is nothing but a synthetic concoction of chemicals)

Obviously, it doesn’t hurt to do a coffee DIY scrub every now and again… it’s still a great exfoliant that can improve circulation and thus it can still be in a way be effective to reduce the appearance of cellulite. It’s also a great substitute for homemade salt scrubs as not every skin can tolerate salt. And because coffee has the same pH level as our skin it only makes sense that we utilize it in skin care products. The cleansing element of coffee is another beneficial factor; this cleanser takes away strong odours by neutralizing and absorbing.

It has the ability to mend broken skin, soothe irritation, and revitalize cells. Coffee contains a free radical scavenger which helps to neutralize reactions caused by oxidation, which are the primary cause for conditions such as acne and eczema.

One thing I would definitely recommend is; eliminate all your soluble ‘coffee’ crap and shift to real freshly grounded coffee beans… you’re worth it! :P

Back to caffeine now.

Caffeine is also currently being used in skin creams and lotions because; it is a vasodilator, which means that it constricts blood cells. The benefit of caffeine for your skin is that it will firstly work to reduce redness. Secondly, it will firm and tighten surface of your skin through constriction, so many companies are using this ingredient to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The caffeine in coffee when used in skin care works to dehydrate fatty cells so that water will disappear from the surface of your skin. This means that the appearance of cellulite is minimized, and your skin begins to look smoother overall.

After all have been said and done, what does the research have to say about this? Shall we hold that coffee cup or not?

‘’The fact that coffee contains good stuff does not necessarily mean that it’s good for us’’, says James D. Lane, PhD, professor of medical psychology and behavioral medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

“It has not really been shown that coffee drinking leads to an increase in antioxidants in the body,” Lane tells WebMD. “We know that there are antioxidants in large quantities in coffee itself, especially when it’s freshly brewed, but we don’t know whether those antioxidants appear in the bloodstream and in the body when the person drinks it. Those studies have not been done.”

MY FINAL TOUGHTS…

Well, I’m not a huge coffee drinker but I do like my occasional strong cup of espresso after a good meal, which really does wonders for my digestion. Having said so, I think the secret of well being is BALANCE… everything can beneficial in small amounts… and when in doubt, well, I just rub my body with it instead! :P

Kaolin Clay (White Clay)

White Kaolin Clay is found in virtually all powdered and dry cosmetics and most wet cosmetics.

Its natural adsorbent properties makes it essential in hygiene products and is often found in soaps, scrubs, poultices, deodorants, facial powders and masks. It is the mildest of all clays and is suitable to add to products created for people with sensitive skin. It helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently exfoliating and cleansing it. It does not draw oils from the skin, so it can also be used on dry skin types without negative results.

Kaolin Clay is high in calcium, silica, zinc and magnesium, which are beneficial for oily, blemished skin. The clay's mildly drying and disinfectant properties help heal existing blemishes and inflammations, while preventing new ones from forming.

Traditionally, clays are used to reduce swelling and inflammation, and to draw impurities from the skin. Cosmetic clays are made up of different mineral contents, and each clay type has a different effect on the skin. The high mineral content of White Kaolin Clay rejuvenates the skin while the clay exfoliates and stimulates blood circulation to the skin. Regular use of clay facials will remove dead skin cells, improve circulation to the skin, remove debris from the pores and bring about a smooth healthy glow.

Cosmetics in Ancient Egypt

These pages are edited by Prof. Hamed Abdel-reheem Ead, Professor of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science -University of Cairo, Giza, Egypt and director of the Science Heritage Center

Cosmetics in Ancient Egypt

Cosmetics are as old as vanity. In Egypt their use can be traced back almost to the earlist period of which burials have been found, and continues to the present day.
Cleanliness and personal appearance were highly regarded by the ancient Egyptians. For the priests in the service of the gods cleanliness was strictly prescribed. Not only did they have to wash several times a day, but they also had to be clean shaven all over, to keep at bay parasites, such as lice, eggs of which have been found in the hair of mummies. Water was plentiful, but there is little evidence that the ancient Egyptians used natural soaps or tooth powder. In a hot climate deodorants were much in demand. To repel body odour men and women alike were advised to rub pellets of ground carob(?) into the skin, or to place little balls of incense and porridge where limbs met.

Around 1400 BC three ladies of the court of Tuthmosis III were buried with costly royal funerary equipment, which included cosmetics. Two of the jars contained a cleansing cream made of oil and lime. Some prescriptions for body 'scrub' are given in the medical papyri

The 'red natron' was presumably natron tinted by an iron compound in the earth where the natron was extracted.

A lady wiping her face. Relief of unknown provenance; 11th Dynasty

(British Museum, 1658)

An allegedly successful remedy to treat wrinkles consisted of': gum of frankincense, wax, fresh moringa oil and cyperus grass; grounded finely and mixed with fermented plant juice applied daily.
A simple remedy of gum applied to the face after cleansing had a similar effect. If' the skin was marred by scars caused by burning, a special ointment was used to treat them and make them less obvious, as for example red ochre and kohl, ground and mixed with sycamore juice. An alternative treatment was a bandage of carob(?) and honey, or an ointment made of frankincense and honey.

Because of  their healthy diet and the lack of sugar the Egyptians did not suffer from tooth decay, but their bread contained particles of sand from the grain and grit from the grinding stone, which caused their teeth to become excessively worn. No evidence has been recovered to suggest that the Egyptians used a toothbrush in the manner of the miswak, a natural brush-cum-toothpaste from Salvadora persica, a tree native to southern Egypt and the Sudan. The root has been used for dental care by the Muslims since the days of the Prophet (PPUH). To improve on their breath the Egyptians chewed herbs, or they gargled with milk. Perhaps they also chewed frankincense like their descendants in the last century

As in other civilizations, the appearance of the hair was of paramount importance not only because of the visual effect, but also because of  the erotic symbolism conventionally conneted with hair. Men and women alike wore wigs made of human hair on festive occasions, but they also tried to keep their natural hair in good condition. Jars of what could be compared with 'setting lotion' have been found to contain a mixture of beeswax and resin. These were remedies for problems such as baldness and greying hair. To treat the latter, blood of a black ox or calf was boiled in oil to transfer the blackness of the animal to the greying hair, or the black horn of a gazelle was made into an unguent with oil to prevent grey hairs from appearing. These remedies are slightly more agreeable than another consisting of putrid donkey's liver steeped in oil, though they all had the same magic effect. A far more efficient remedy would be an ointment made of juniper berries and two unidentified plants kneaded into a paste with oil and heated. The natural colouring matter in the plants would rub off on the hair, and the astringent properties of juniper stimulate the scalp. In order to make the hair grow, chopped lettuce was placed on a bald patch, if the baldness occurred after an illness, or the head was anointed with equal parts of fir oil and another oil or fat.

The toilet casket of any man or woman would contain a razor for removing body hair, although a number of creams were sometimes used for the purpose. One such consisted of the boiled and crushed bones of a bird, mixed with fly dung, oil, sycamore juice, gum, and cucumber; this mixture would be heated and applied, presumably to be pulled off when cold, with the hair adhering to it.

The almond shape of the black Egyptian eyes was underlined by the application of black kohl or green malachite. Eyepaint was also considered as a treatment to cure or prevent eye diseases. A great number of prescriptions deal with preventing ingrowing eyelashes.
To cool the eyes a finely ground green mineral (jasper or serpentine) mixed with water was applied to the lids. Alternative preparations were ground carob(?) and fermented honey, or emmer grains steeped in water overnight. An eye wash was prepared from ground celery and hemp.

It was believed that eye make-up could ward off evil spirits and improve the sight. Even the poor wore eye make-up in ancient Egypt. The production of cosmetics during ancient Rome was usually done by female slaves called Cosmetae.

Eyepaint for an overnight treatment made of kohl and goose fat or a paste was mixed from kohl, green eyepaint, lapis lazuli, honey and ochre in equal parts, applied to the lids. The green eyepaint was usually malachite, a green ore of copper; kohl was made of galena, a dark grey ore of lead. It w as kept in lumps in little bags of linen or leather and was ground on a palette to a fine powder. The powder was poured into vases or tube-shaped containers from which it was extracted with a thin stick. It was applied either with the moistened stick, as is done by Egyptian women today, or, for medicinal purposes as quoted above, mixed with some fatty matter.

Malachite was brought to the Nile Valley from the mountainous regions of Sinai, whereas galena was obtained either near Aswan in Upper Egypt or at the Red Sea coast. But both were also imported as luxury commodities from Asia and Arabia. However, no matter which remedy was employed, the Egyptians knew that nothing made the eyes brighter than falling in love: 'Like eyepaint is my desire. When I see you, it makes my eyes sparkle', says a girl in a love poem.

Some Egyptians appear to have dyed their fingernails, but the nature of the red colour used is unknown. It may have been henna. Red was also required to paint the lips. The lip gloss, possibly made of fat with red ochre or with one of the plants used for dyeing, was applied with a brush or spatula. Red colour was used to give glow to the cheeks. A rouge consisting of red ochre and fiat, possibly with a little gull resin, has survived: it was some four thousand years old. Rouge in the form of powder was marketed a few years ago as a product of ancient Egyptian origin. The recipe which inspired the manufacturers was presumably one of those used for the purpose of camouflaging a burn.

Hemp powder

This is one of the most potent foods available, supporting optimal health and well being, for life. Raw hemp provides a broad spectrum of health benefits, including: weight loss, increased and sustained energy, rapid recovery from disease or injury, lowered cholesterol and blood pressure, reduced inflammation, improvement in circulation and immune system as well as natural blood sugar control.

Heart Health and Lowered Blood Pressure:
Premature health failure may first appear as high blood pressure - a sign that the heart is over worked, required to force blood through too many miles of sluggish blood vessels.

Improved Digestion:
There are no known allergies to Hemp and they are of special benefit to those who are unable to eat gluten, lactose, sugar, fish, nuts, meat and other common foods. Combined with high fibre grains, fruits and vegetables in the diet, expect regular bowel movements synchronized with the frequency of meals - a sign of a naturally health bowel.

Losing Weight Naturally:
By taking Hemp as directed, expect to be hunger free until mid-afternoon. Expect reduced cravings for foods with stimulants, sugars, starches and saturated fats.

Healthy Cholesterol Levels:
Premature health failure appear as high cholesterol - a sign that veins and arteries have lost their elasticity as a result of an imperfect diet. Hemp are not only cholesterol free, but contain the optimum ratio of the polyunsaturated essential fatty acids, Omega 3 and 6 - hemp oil contains 57% linoleic (LA) and 19% linolenic (LNA) acids. When added to the diet, in a whole, natural and a cold processed food, like Hemp, improves cholesterol profiles. Hemp oil also contains some GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) that is absent from the fats we normally eat, but considered to be beneficial to health by nutritional experts.

A Natural Way to Control Blood Sugars:
Premature health failure may also appear as Type II diabetes - a sign that relevant organs are no longer capable of processing the sweet and starchy foods that are too often consumed.

The first steps in naturally balancing blood sugars is to introduce a high quality lean protein in your diet - the glucagon released when you eat protein helps keep insulin in check, then incorporate essential fatty acids, both found in Hemp. By avoiding refined carbohydrates - sugars and starches, in favour of high fibre vegetable and whole grain foods, our customers naturally control their blood sugar levels. Diabetics especially, report that circulation improves, often to the extent that they no longer fear losing their feet.
