Ignorance is a choice - Knowledge is power!

And you thought ALL soap is the same… well, think again!!

Most  people think I make soap for fun...in reality there's more to it. I have come to realize  what a corrupt world we leave in... with cancers and new diseases cropping up every day...

I sit around pondering:  What is 'pissing the Gods off' so much that we deserve this...so I read, I research and have come to realize that no God created this...

WE created these problems...Stress, overload of chemicals, living on the fast lane and lack of quality time.

I'm no guru, and I'm not here to teach anything to anyone...but I enjoy the simple things in life and love sharing what I know. So if you would like to know more here's a few lines (more then few i guess! :P ) about why I do what I do.

  • Did you know that 60% of what we put on our skin goes into our blood stream? Whether good or bad, your little ‘insignificant’ daily washing routine can either be of benefit or pretty dangerous in the long run… it’s useless eating healthy when you’re loading your skin with toxic waste!

  • Is there the word ‘S.O.A.P’ written on your packaging of bar of soap/liquid soap? Probably NOT! Guess what..? Your nice fragrant white ‘soap’ with that little birdie on it is not actually soap but a detergent. The word ‘soap’ cannot be used on the product simply because it is NOT SOAP and thus it’s against the law to call it that!

  • Have you ever checked the ingredients? Mind boggling aren't they! Well, it doesn’t have to be that way… if a product is natural, then there shouldn’t be an unfathomable list written at the back of your product.

  • Did you know that REAL soap can take up to 6 weeks to be ready to sell?! And that is why your commercial, mass produced product can NEVER be truly natural… no large company that distributes its products worldwide will wait so long before they can sell it.

  • You love your pets don’t you?! Well, probably you are harming other animals without even knowing it!  Most commercial products are tested on animals… on their skins, their eyes their mouths. They are burned and disfigured and there are a precious few laws protecting them. commerical companies prefer animal testing because it’s cheaper than passing through expensive lab tests. At SoapCafe` we never test on animals. Our products pass through laborious lab tests and get certified without ever harming another being! In fact, most of our product are also VEGAN!.. And those which aren’t are still 100% vegetarian!

  • I don't mean to be a wet sock, but you’re not only depleting Marine Life but eating your detergent! Cleaning your clothes, your floors and even our bodies…you are using detergents with harsh chemicals which do not dissolve in water. That water goes into our drains and even after being treated, chemical residue persists and is not broken down. That drain water goes into our seas killing plant life, plankton and hence also fish. If that doesn't kill the fish, then it may end up into your plate.

Therefore, the commercial product you’re using today is probably going to end up in your stomach by the end of the week…  WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!

Bath Paints

This seemed like good clean fun!!! .Why not turn bath time into a fun, creative art time with bath paints? Here a little project for kids of all ages ;) Courtesy of Homemade Mamas Blog

This recipe cleaned up easily, but you might want to test it first on your grout.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup body wash
5 tablespoons cornstarch
food coloring

Mix the cornstarch with the soap. You may need to adjust the amount depending on your soap. Mix it in one tablespoon at a time. Divide mixture into smaller bowls. We used small containers with lids to save for future baths. Add a drop or two of food coloring to each bowl and stir.

Now it is time to paint...

Happiness is a Choice... So choose to be happy!

Our life is filled with up hills and maybe even more down hills. Most of us may not have had an easy life, but i think sometimes is our state of mind that determines the outcome of our short journey on earth...

The following words are some thoughts by Karl Ericson . I was very much moved by these thoughts. After all the best natural remedy of all for our mind, body and soul, is happiness...

Barry Kaufmann the founder of the Option Institute  and student of Bruce Marsico, the creator of the Option Method, has stated a fundamental and important secret of Happiness which is that "Happiness is a choice". In fact that is the title of one of his books. The reaction I would have had a while back to a statement like that would have been that it is nonsense. I would have said "I want to be happy and I'm not, so it is absurd to say that happiness is a choice. External tragic events can happen over which I have no control so happiness is not a choice.

In 100 A.D. Epictetus, a Greek Stoic philosopher once said

What disturbs people's minds
is not events
but their judgments on events.

More than 1800 years later this sentence is quoted by both rational emotive and cognitive therapists.   Throughout history this wisdom has been put forth by different people.  Marcus Aurelius said:
Life is
what your thoughts
make it.
Abraham Lincoln said:
A person
will be just about as happy
as they make up their minds
to be.

Charles Popplestone (whoever he was) said:
You cannot
always control circumstances,
but you can control
your own thoughts

We have some degree of control over our reaction to events and to that extent happiness is a choice.  The more we understand about happiness the more power we have to achieve it and the more it becomes a choice.

Often people do not choose happiness. That may sound strange, one would expect that everyone would choose to be happy if they were in the position to do so. If I am anxious to get something done quickly I sometimes tell myself that I have to hurry and things will be bad if I don't hurry and by doing so create anxiety within myself.  What I am doing is choosing to be nervous rather than happy in order to get something that I want. If I am worried about something happening e.g. losing a job, I might make myself more worried than I already am so that I will take action to prevent myself from losing the job.  In this case making myself afraid and unhappy is a defense mechanism against the threat of losing my job.  Likewise I disapprove of myself if I spend my time on enjoyable activities other than work.  This is another way to motivate myself to spend more time working.  My choice to disapprove of myself is a choice to be unhappy since that is the end result.  Of course if I lose my job because I didn't spend enough time on work I'd be unhappy as well but the point I'm making here is that for whatever reason, people sometimes choose to feel unhappy.  In addition to generating anxiety to motivate ourselves I sometimes don't want to be happy because I want to fight against a threat.  It might make me feel important to think I can do something against the threat of terrorism for example and that might be a reason I want to think about doing that instead of trying to be happy.
Not all emotions are by choice.  We may be naturally anxious about a situation.  We may be frustrated because things aren't going our way.  In these situations we can choose to try and not feel this way or to feel this way even more strongly.  Sometimes I dwell on things that I am upset about because I want to change them. Once I have made a plan of action to deal with the situation dwelling on the situation doesn't help and just generates unhappiness.  Yet sometimes I dwell on it anyway and so make myself unhappy.   We can call motivating oneself by creating unhappiness "negative self motivation".

Barry Kaufmann described negative self motivation beautifully in his book  To Love is to Be Happy With.  He wrote,
I realized how I had used myself against myself because of what I had believed.  I dreaded obesity and rejection in order to motivate myself to diet.   I feared lung cancer so that I could stop smoking.  I became anxious about unemployment as a way of pushing  myself to be more conscientious and to work harder.   I felt guilty to punish myself now in order to prevent myself from repeating a "bad" behavior in the future.  When I surveyed the environment, I saw people punish in order to prevent, fear death in order to live, hate war in order to stay in touch with their desire for peace.  Unhappiness was used as a motivator to help me take care of myself and to try to get more....All this so that eventually I would be happy or fulfilled.

Why are soap operas called ''Soap Opera''?

This question has been intriguing my soapy brains lately...so I did some investigations and found a great explanation for this question. So here goes...

Soap Opera - Goes back (1939) to the early days of radio suspense serials, which were mainly sponsored by soap-makers; the "opera" part is an echo of the earlier "horse opera"—a Western (1927).

You might be asking now, why would a soap company sponsor such a thing?...

In the 1920s, radio was booming, and broadcasters wanted to get advertisers in on the act to increase their station's profits. So radio stations convinced businesses that sold household goods to sponsor radio shows.
Since they were on during the day when the viewing audience was predominately housewives the demographic was perfect for companies to promote household cleaning products.
Soon, all the networks had serial aimed at women, and companies selling cleaners and food products rushed to sponsor the shows. For example, Proctor & Gamble's Oxydol soap powder sponsored a popular serial drama in 1933.

Soaps moved from radio to TV along with most entertainment forms in the 1950s. Despite the intervention of evil twins, presumed-dead spouses, vengeful lovers, and the occasional vampire, soap operas have been going strong ever since.

The Fig

The fig tree, 'Ficus carica,' possibly originated in Northern Asia according to archeological fossil records, but some believe is a plant native to the Mediterranean region. The edible part of the fig, called the 'fruit' is not really a fruit at all, it's a synconium. Inside the synconium are a cluster of hundreds of flowers. If pollinated, these flowers produce drupelets, tiny bubbles of fruit material with a seed in the center.

The the fig was one of the earliest fruit cultivated by man. Its high nutrient content is believed to have the ability to keep a man alive solely on this fruit.
Fig (Ficus Carica) Maltese: Tin

Nutritional information:
Figs are rich in Calcium, Potassium, Vitamin B6,  Iron and Magnesium and Pectin. A very fibrous fruit that provides more fiber then any other fruit or vegetable and are very low in fat. It's also an excellent remedy for those suffering from chronic constipation as it is believed to be a laxative.

Some interesting Benefits:

Skin Problems:  Figs are high in water content improving the skin's appearance by 'cleansing' it, and it is beleived to clear acne and blemish problems.

Fatigue: Having up to 80%  of water and high amount of natural sugars, they make an excellent replacement for a ''Gatorade'' , as it is a brilliant source of energy and brain stimulant...thus making you more responsive and alert

Memory Loss: Figs are the ultimate brain fuel! With 60% of natural sugars that stimulate the brain and make you think and recall faster.

Insomnia: Figs contain a Nutriant called tryptophan. This promotes good sleep while encouraging good circulation

Anemia: Anemia is lack of Iron which alot of women and girls suffer from due to heavy periods. Figs are a very good source of iron which helps to replace such deficiency.

Constipation and Weight loss: As previously mentioned, figs are a good source of fibre which may trigger a laxative effect.

Bone disorder/ Lack of Calcium: This is great news for all Vegans and those who are milk intolerant who need to naturally replace milk and still get their calcium intake. Figs are naturally high in calcium which makes them ideal for growing children to develop good bone structure. Needn't to say that is also a great source of calcium for those who suffer from osteoporosis and brittle bones.

A healthy heart: Figs are also believed to help a lot of cardiac disorders, maintaining good cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, hyper tension and diabetes.

Note : Excessive intake of figs may result in diarrhea. Also, figs contains substantial amount of oxalates and therefore, if you are suffering from any kidney related disease or gall bladder problem, do not eat figs. Figs are very sweet and too much of sweet might cause you tooth decay problem. Lastly, dried figs are usually treated with sulphur dioxide in order to preserve the figs and maintain its color. Just in case, if you are sensitive to sulfites, search for sulfite free ones such as organic figs which is a very good alternative.

The Difference between Essential oils & Fragrance oils

This may sound obvious so some but totally new to others: Essential oils ARE DIFFERENT from fragrance oils.  Mainly because the quality of the essential oil is what makes the difference between being therapeutic and just smelling nice.
There are about 150 different essential oils all with unique chemical compositions!
They are usually processed through steam or water distillation

Essential oils are extracted from the seeds, roots, bark and berry of plants and are carefully refined to preserve the very thing that makes them "essential". They contain the vitamins and nutrients that keep the plant alive - the essential constituents that keep it free from disease and growing strongly. These parts of the plants are highly sensitive and can be damaged if not properly processed. One essentially needs to be a chemist to really understand them all!

Chemical Components of Essential Oils

The chemical components of many essential oils are complex and very difficult to reproduce synthetically; not all chemical components in essential oils have been precisely identified by scientists. Essential oils are volatile and, depending on the essential oil, can be identified as a top, middle or base note oil.

The chemical components of essential oils vary in the same species of plant because of season, climate and growing conditions, which means the essential oil aroma varies slightly between different batches, according to author and aromatherapist Shirley Price in her book "Aromatherapy Workbook."

Chemical Components of Fragrance Oils

Fragrance oils are not volatile because they are synthetically made; therefore, fragrance oils usually last longer than essential oils. The range of fragrance oils is a lot wider than essential oils because almost any fragrance can be made in a laboratory. Fragrance oils may contain a certain percentage of essential oils, but they are not completely natural, like essential oils.

Price of Essential Oils

Essential oils vary considerably in price depending on the type of essential oil, season and availability but in general, they are usually more expensive then fragrance oils. Why you ask?! .. To put things in perspective for you, it takes about 30 rose petals to make a SINGLE drop of rose oil. Citurs oils are usually cheaper beacause it's easier to extract them.

Price of Fragrance Oils

Fragrance oils are usually cheaper than essential oils because of the ease at which they are synthetically made but it may vary depending on the quality of the final product (Sometimes fragrances may have a mix of natural extracts) . Almost any aroma is available as a fragrance oil; Examples of fragrance oils that cannot be extracted in essential oil format include banana, strawberry, melon, apple, blueberry pie and hot fudge cake.

Uses of Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils

Essential oils are often used in aromatherapy practice for the therapeutic properties they possess. In addition, essential oils are used in perfumes, natural body products, Handmade/Natural soaps and as flavorings in food and alcohol. Fragrance oils are commonly used in commercial soaps, perfumes and body lotions because there a wide variety of fragrances available, they are cheaper than essential oils and they last longer.

General Use Instructions for Clays

(For more info regarding specific clays, refer to the category 'Benefits of Clay'  where you can find a list of the benefits of various clays)

Baths:
Add 2-3 ounces of clay to your bath water, and thoroughly mix in. Soak and enjoy. Feel free to add essential oils or an herbal infusion to enrich the experience.

Body Packs:
Add one part clay to three parts water or until the desired consistency is reached. Mix thoroughly to an even paste, and then apply to skin area.
Face Mask:
Mix a small amount with water until a smooth paste is obtained. Apply a thin layer of the paste to your face. Leave for 10 - 15 minutes or until dried before rinsing with warm water. If you have dry or sensitive skin, you may rinse the treatment off after 5 minutes, before it is completely dried. All skin types may use an herbal infusion or flower waters instead of water to increase the healing action, or may add a small amount of essential oil to the clay mixture. In addition, those with normal-dry skin may use honey, yogurt, cream, milk, or vegetable glycerin instead of water, or can add pureed avocado, cucumber, or a few drops of a carrier oil (such as Jojoba oil) to the mixture. Those with oily skin may add Witch Hazel extract, vinegar, lemon juice, or an egg white to the clay mixture. Those with acne prone skin can add vinegar or lemon juice to the mixture, and 1-2 drops of Tea Tree or Lavender essential oil.

First Aid:
Mix a small amount of clay with water, aloe vera gel, or flower water, and stir until a smooth paste is achieved. Apply directly to cuts, minor burns, stings, bites, or rashes.

Poultice:
Add one part clay to three parts water or until you reach desired consistency, mix thoroughly to an even paste. Spread paste onto a piece of gauze and apply directly to the affected area, securing with a bandage. Leave in place for up to 2 hours but do not allow the paste to dry. Discard the poultice and re-apply a fresh one if needed.

Rhassoul clay

Rhassoul clay is a truly exquisite Spa quality clay from ancient deposits unearthed from the fertile Atlas mountains of Morocco where it has been used for over 1400 years as a skin conditioner, soap, and shampoo.

This clay has a long history, and was used in ancient Rome and Egypt by those of nobility. Rhassoul is a mineral rich, reddish/brown clay that blends extremely well with water making its application to the face and skin a smooth and delightful experience.

Today, upscale spas and resorts across the globe utilize the toning and enriching benefits offered by Rhassoul clay. It is very high in trace minerals such as silica, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium and sodium, making it truly one of the finest treasures for pampering your skin.

Because of the high mineral content, astringent properties, and absorption properties, Rhassoul clay is a wonderful and effective clay for cleansing, detoxification, and for general skin care treatments. In clinical tests, Rhassoul has been shown to be effective on skin elasticity, clogged pores, removes dead skin layers, removed surface oil from skin, improves skin clarity and appearance, and reduces flakiness and dryness of both the scalp and skin.

Try using Rhassoul clay in soap recipes, facial masks, body wraps, clay packs, shampoos, and conditioners for a luxurious and decadent experience.

White Cosmetic clay (Kaolin)

White Cosmetic clay (also known as Kaolin clay) is one of the most versatile clays, and is also the mildest of all cosmetic clays.

It is commonly found in skincare preparations and cosmetics because of its gentle nature, mineral content, absorbent properties, and ability to “fix” scents. White clay is made up of fine clay particles, and has a lightweight fluffy consistency. This clay is more widely used than any other cosmetic clay, and is frequently found in powders, body packs, skin care products, deodorants, soaps, scrubs, poultices, cosmetics, facial masks, and toiletries.

This clay will gently draw impurities from the skin without removing natural oils while simultaneously exfoliating, cleansing, and stimulating circulation. White clay is suitable for all skin types, whether it be oily, blemish prone, normal, sensitive, dry, or mature skin.

French Green Clay

French Green Clay (Also Known as Illite Clay or Sea Clay) is very absorbent, and literally "drinks" oils, toxic substances, and impurities from your skin. Its toning action stimulates the skin by bringing fresh blood to damaged skin cells, revitalizing the complexion, and tightening pores.

Mined from bedrock quarries in France, it is sun-dried, completely natural, unscented, and fragrance free. Green clay is a bio-mineral, and contains decomposed plant matter as well as many trace minerals, such as: silica, aluminum, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, selenium, cobalt, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, micro-algaes, kelp, and phyto-nutrients. Green Clay has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties which make it beneficial for muscular pain, swelling, and arthritic or rheumatic conditions.

Cosmetically, French Green clay is revered for its ability to stimulate blood and lymph circulation, remove dead skin cells, absorb impurities and fats, and tone and strengthen connective tissues. After using French Green clay, skin feels fresh, smooth, radiant, and soft. French Green Clay is also marvelous for helping to clear problem skin areas, and is gentle enough to use weekly, or even daily on problem spots.

Fuller's Earth Clay

Fuller’s Earth clay is a naturally occurring sedimentary clay composed mainly of alumina, silica, iron oxides, lime, and magnesia. It has been widely used as a skin-lightening agent, and it produces a lightening effect on the outer epidermal layer of the skin.

Because of its enormous drawing capabilities, Fuller’s Earth clay literally draws and absorbs oil from the skin, and is the number one choice for those with oily skin or those who are prone to acne. This clay is highly recommended to those with acne problems, blemishes, and people prone to oily skin. It is also a useful base ingredient in facial recipes for those with oily skin. Traditionally, Fuller’s Earth clay was used to remove oils from sheep wool because of its oil absorption properties. It has also been used in kitty litter, and in autobody shops to help absorb and remove grease and oil spills.

Bentonite Clay

Bentonite clay (also known as Montmorillonite) is an edible clay from naturally occurring volcanic ash sediments, and contains over 70 trace minerals.

This clay is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays used to treat both internal and external maladies. The largest and most active deposits come from Wyoming and Montana. Bentonite clay is traditionally used as an internal supplement to assist with mineral deficiencies, and to help bind toxins making them more soluble. Externally, Bentonite is used as a clay poultice, mud pack, in the bath, and in skin care recipes.

Bentonite clay has the ability to absorb toxins, impurities, heavy metals and other contaminants from the body, and is ingested to treat mineral deficiencies, anemia, stomach ulcers, diarrhea, intestinal problems, hemorrhoids, and for general organ health.

We suggest you visit a professional in the field if considering using Bentonite Clay for internal use.

The Benefits of HEMP

The source for hemp seed oil is the plant Cannabis sativa. Hemp seeds are cold pressed to make a sweet, nutty oil. The oil does not contain THC (Tetrahydrocannnabinol), the main psychoactive phytochemical found in the cannabis plant.

Although Cannabis sativa is mistakenly linked to hashish (dagga/marijuana) and its negative connotation, hemp seed oil, as it is used in cosmetic products, does not cause hallucinations and is not banned by any government.

The oil can be used as part of a nutritional programme to maintain and improve good health. With a pleasant nutty flavour, Hemp Seed Oil is ideal for use in salad dressings, mayonnaise, dips etc. It is not suitable for frying as this reduces the benefits.

What are the beneficial properties of Hemp Seed Oil?

Because Hemp Seed Oil is such a rich source of both LA (Omega 6) and LNA (Omega 3) in balanced proportions, conditions caused by deficiencies in both can be treated with one oil.

The functions of LNA include: Production of smooth skin, increased stamina, speeds healing, increases vitality, brings a feeling of calmness, reduces inflammation, water retention, platelet stickiness and blood pressure, enhances immune functions, reduces the pain and swelling of arthritis, can reverse pre-menstrual syndrome, can treat bacterial infections, brain development in children.

Hemp oil in Cosmetics
1. Hemp Effectively Moisturizes Your Skin
Hemp, with its perfect balance of the fatty acids omega 3 and omega 6, is able to effectively penetrate your skin. This allows the hemp product to moisturize your skin from within.

2. Hemp Helps Battle Aging
Not only is hemp an effective moisturizer, but it also a tried and tested anti-aging product. However, this doesn’t mean that the effects of aging will be reversed. On the contrary, the natural oils in hemp beauty products can truly help you get rid of the wrinkles, lines and dull skin that you already have. As a result, your skin becomes firmer and younger.

3. Hemp Repairs Your Hair
Hempseed oil repairs your hair in much the same way that it moisturizes your skin – by healing from within. Hemp shampoos and other hair care products works deep into your scalp to give you healthier hair.

Benefits of hemp farming
As a natural fiber, hemp is known as one of the longest, strongest, and most durable of the bunch. It is also one of the safest natural resources to maintain, as cultivation methods require no ecologically damaging chemicals, herbicides, or pesticides. Farmers may find a wealth of opportunities by embracing hemp plants, which fits right in with the rotation of other crops, including corn. Since hemp is easy to grow through a process that in fact strengthens surrounding soil, the plant is a clear friend of the planet. Many also believe the hemp plant could produce a biomass for fuel that would burn cleaner than other well-known ethanol selections.

Other Hemp Products
Naturally, products made from hemp are 100% biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable. Also, the speed at which hemp grows can provide benefits regarding the resource requirements of the end product.

Here are some examples of how hemp products could benefit our environment and our health:

Switching to hemp paper could reduce deforestation significantly. For every 4 acres of trees that are required annually to make paper, only an acre of hemp would be required.

Furthermore, because hemp paper can be recycled so many times (up to 7 or 8 times), much less is needed. In comparison, paper from wood pulp can only be recycled around 3 times. This means even more trees are required.

Clothing and textiles made from hemp have no residual chemicals that could affect our health (as many other fabrics do).Hemp based fabrics block the sun’s UV rays more effectively than other fabrics. This is true, even if it’s only a 50% blend with another fabric.

Oatmeal and Lavander Soap

There are various ways to make soap. The easiest and safest method is called 'melt and mold'. This is when you buy a ready made soap base and literally melt it and mold it into any shape you like. You can also add herbs, colourant and essentials oils to customize your own soap.

Make sure you buy high quality melt and mold bases for a good quality handcrafted soap. For SLS & Paraben Free soap bases visit www.SoapCafeMalta.com
Ingredients:
200grams Opaque SLS free soap base
1 tablespoon Oat flakes
6ml Lavender Essential oil
Empty butter container to use as mold.
Rubbing Alcohol

Method
1. Melt the soap base in a microwave or a double boiler. Make sure you cover properly to keep the moisture from evaporating. It takes only a minute and a stir or two when using a microwave. When using a double boiler, you simply bring the water to a boil then add the base. Set the heat to low then check periodically to see if everything has melted.
2. As soon as everything is melted, add oatmeal and essential oil then stir well (slowly).
3. Make sure you get rid of bubbles forming by spraying with alcohol.
4. Pour your final melted base into the mold . Spray with alcohol to remove excess bubbles.
5. Wait for the soap to harden, unmold then enjoy lathering onto your skin.

"Sweet Dreams" Linen Spray

Aside from being able to create your favorite linen spray scents is the added benefit of adjusting the level of scent that permeates your home. If you prefer a stronger-smelling spray, you have the flexibility of adding additional drops of essential oils. On the other hand, if you prefer a soft, barely noticeable hint of fragrance, fewer drops of the essential oil will be required. In addition, you will have the luxury of mixing oil scents together, creating your own signature fragrances for your homemade linen sprays.

Ingredients:
60ml Floral water (Lavender or Rose Water)
40ml *Ethanol or Vodka
15-20 drops of Essential oils

Suggested Essential oils:
Choose non-staining essential oils for white linens, try any of the following: Lavender, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Peppermint, Petitgrain

Method:
Mix all ingredients together. Shake well before using. Store in a cool dark place. Product is best kept in a dark glass bottle

*Ethanol is often sold as "Rubbing Alcohol." Do not use Isopropyl as it is derived from petroleum.

General Guidelines for Using Essential Oils Safely

Essential Oils are volatile and are highly flammable. I know many people who make wrong use of such products because they underestimate the power of natural remedies. Never assume that because a product is natural, then it's safe to 'use and abuse'.

When using essential oils, please follow these general safety guidelines:

• Keep away from fire or open flame
• Store in a cool place
• Keep out of sunlight
• Plastic bottles are a no as they allow the essential oil to evaporate and take on the plastic smell; additionally, plastic bottles generally collapse as they start to absorbed the essential oil
• Expensive essential oils should be kept in the fridge
• Wash your hands after using essential oils
• If you mix your essential oil with a fixed oil to make it skin safe, keep in mind that your fixed oil has a shorter shelf life than your essential oil and may go rancid. Always mix in small batches.
• Essential oils can stain and also remove nail polish and furniture finish
• Have an eye rinse station nearby. If you get essential oils in your eyes, use milk or a carrier oil first to help neutralize the oil and then move on to water
• Essential oils are generally not soluble in water
• Essential oils do not mix well with computers, pets, children, furniture, carpet and even indoor plants
• Make sure your bottles are labeled correctly
• Use caution when working around essential oils if you have any open cuts or wounds
• Essential oils can negate the effect of sensitive homeopathy remedies
• Some essential oils are photo sensiziers, like bergamot, orange eo and most citrus essential oils
• Only buy your essential oils from a reputable place.
• If you are pregnant, be extra careful with essential oils during your first trimester
• When working with undiluted essential oils, keep a good air flow in the room
• Always have a fire extinguisher near by. Essential oils are volatile, flammable liquids.
